Becky Bettesworth, exclusive in Brixham

Devon's seaside-print artist. The full Brixham allocation lands on the wall behind the counter.

Bertie and Crew is the only Brixham stockist of Becky Bettesworth. Her travel posters and seaside prints, originals and giclees, framed and unframed, hang on the back wall in rotation. Customers come in from the harbour ferry asking for them by name, and we keep the Brixham harbour-and-trawler print on the wall as a permanent piece because the visitors photograph it before they buy it.

The dog luxuries display inside Bertie and Crew, leads and treats and coats.
For Bertie, and the dog you brought with you

Dog luxuries. Named after the Springer the shop was opened for, and stocked by people who keep dogs.

The shop is called Bertie and Crew because Charlie and Nicola opened it in 2015 named after one of their four Springer Spaniels. Leanne kept the name when she took the keys in 2018, and the dog section kept its place at the back of the shop. Coats, collars, leads, treats, beds and a water bowl by the door for the dog you walked in with.

If you are after a particular Bettesworth print or a brand size we do not have to hand, phone ahead so we can hold or order the piece.

The Bettesworth exclusive · on the back wall

The only Brixham wall hanging the full Becky Bettesworth allocation.

Becky Bettesworth's Devon seaside prints and travel posters are the line customers walk through the door asking for. Bertie and Crew is the only shop in Brixham that holds her work, and the full Brixham allocation hangs on the wall behind the counter. The Brixham harbour-and-trawler print is on the wall permanently, because the visitors who arrive on the harbour ferry photograph it before they buy it, then come back the same afternoon to take one home.

From four Springer Spaniels to Leanne, on the marina deck

One shop. Two ownerships. The same Springer Spaniel name above the door.

Bertie and Crew opened mid-2015 on Prince William Quay, the newest shop on the marina deck at the time. Charlie and Nicola named it after one of their four Springer Spaniels called Bertie. Three years later, in August 2018, Leanne Jones took the keys. She kept the name. The dog section kept its place at the back. The water bowl by the door is still there.

Leanne and her husband Tim had been coming to Brixham on family holidays for eleven years before they bought a fisherman's cottage off the harbour in 2009. They moved in permanently the same year. Leanne had a retail and holiday-letting background. Tim is a full-time plumber and gas engineer who joins the shop floor at weekends. The marina is the only commute either of them have.

The Becky Bettesworth exclusive came with the shop. Leanne renewed it, kept the back wall as the Bettesworth wall, and turned the front of the floor over to the bag, beauty and jewellery rotation the harbour-walk season turns over.

On the marina deck, above the trawler fleet. Two minutes from the harbour ferry.

Prince William Quay is the shopping deck on the marina side of Brixham harbour, looking out over the moored fishing fleet and the working fish market. The harbour ferry from Torquay lands a two-minute walk away. The steam train and the Greenway path reach the town from the other direction. Middle Street, the historic Indie Street, sits up the hill behind the marina.

Pay-and-display parking runs along the quay and at Oxen Cove five minutes' walk away. The Quayside multi-storey takes the longer stay. Bring change for the meter or use RingGo on the post. We are in the row on the deck above the boats.

Holding a Bettesworth print, finding a size, posting a gift home. Same answer, picked up in the shop.

Tell us what you are after. A Bettesworth print to collect on the harbour ferry round trip, a brand size we have in the cabinet, a wedding-favour order for a Brixham weekend, an opinion on a gift you saw in the window. Leanne or Tim will reply during opening hours. If it is quicker to phone, the number is on the contact card.

A reminder that the shop is the place. Mail order on a known item is something we will arrange on the phone, but the marina deck is where the rail and the wall actually are.

Or phone the shop on 01803 858118 during opening hours.

Five questions

The ones harbour visitors ask at the door.

If yours is not here, phone the shop on 01803 858118 or pop in during opening hours.

Are you really the only Brixham stockist of Becky Bettesworth?

Yes. Bertie and Crew is the exclusive Brixham stockist of Becky Bettesworth's seaside prints and travel posters. We hang the full Brixham allocation on the back wall behind the counter. If you have seen the print on the harbour ferry or in the steam-train waiting room and want to find it, we will have it in store or order it for collection.

Who is Bertie?

Bertie was one of four Springer Spaniels owned by Charlie and Nicola, who opened the shop in 2015. When Leanne bought the shop in 2018 she kept the name, and the dog section kept its place at the back. The water bowl by the front door is for the dog you walked in with.

Can I park near the marina?

The harbour-side pay-and-display is two minutes' walk along Prince William Quay. Oxen Cove and the Quayside multi-storey are five minutes on foot the other way. Bring change for the meter or use the RingGo number on the post. We are on the marina deck, in the row above the moored fishing fleet.

Do you ship outside Brixham?

Yes, anything in the shop. Phone the counter on 01803 858118 during opening hours and Leanne or Tim will pick up. We post to UK addresses by Royal Mail tracked, and we hold gift items for collection if you are coming back through Brixham later in the season.

Are you open on Sundays?

Yes, 11:00 to 18:00. The marina is busiest at lunch and we open a little later on Sundays so the harbour-walk crowd lands at the door at the same time. If we are quiet we will be on the deck out front with a coffee from the boatyard cafe two doors down.
